Preventive dentistry is one of the most important services we provide. We believe your oral health can be pain free and free of cavities and gum (periodontal) disease.  The importance of oral hygiene is underscored by the following fact:   more adults lose their teeth as a result of gum disease than from any other cause.

The good news is that gum disease is preventable!

Your oral health also has a significant impact on your overall wellbeing.  Studies have shown a link between poor oral health and diseases such as heart disease, stroke, cancer and diabetes. Other health problems such as gastrointestinal problems (Crohn’s disease), skin diseases and autoimmune diseases can also be detected when doing an exam of the oral cavity.  Through, an extensive first examination and subsequent regular continuing care appointments, we can work together as a team to maintain optimal oral health on a long-term basis.

During your first visit to Village Green Dental Care, Dr. Baksh will discuss any of your concerns, expectations and answer any questions you may have about your dental health.

Your examination will be done using state of the art equipment such as digital x-rays and intra-oral cameras as well as a digital camera and will consist of:

  • A soft tissue examination to ensure that no cancerous lesions, signs of other problems or malformations are present.
  • Examination of the teeth - any breakdown due to failing restorations or decay is noted. Teeth and jaw are measured and the bite noted.
  • Periodontal assessment - assess the condition of the gums in detail.  From a prevention standpoint, this is could be very important, since according to clinical trials, gum disease may heighten risk for heart disease, diabetes, pneumonia and premature births.
  • X-rays - the number of films taken varies depending on the individual.  We are aware of concerns regarding radiation. Therefore, we use digital x-rays, which reduce the exposure to radiation compared to traditional x-rays. Digital x-rays also allow us to dispense with using chemicals to develop traditional x-ray film, making it safer for our environment. Please note: we only take x-rays that enable us to do a thorough examination.
  • Digital and Intra-oral Pictures- digital pictures of your head and profile will be taken along with pictures of the inside of your oral cavity.  These are helpful tools in making a diagnosis and checking for alignment.

After completing a thorough examination, a treatment plan and a preventive maintenance plan which includes cleaning appointments and home care suggestions, will be completed to suit your needs.   A complementary consultation appointment will be scheduled with Dr. Baksh to discuss your treatment plan and options. During the consultation, we will also provide you with the cost and time frame necessary to complete your treatment and answer any questions you may have.

An appointment with our hygienist is much more than just a cleaning, since prevention is important to your oral as well as your overall health. Our hygienist is able to clean plaque and tartar build up under your gums where you are not able to get with a toothbrush. It is also an opportunity for us to re-evaluate the condition of your teeth and gums and to ensure that any subtle changes over time are detected. Our hygienist will provide you with the best periodontal care, tailoring your plan and frequency of your continuing care appointments to your individual needs. These visits to our office, coupled with thorough home care, are the best strategy for achieving and maintaining excellence in oral health.

Children and Dentistry

It is a known fact that a child's primary teeth are vital to the long-term health of their permanent adult teeth. The premature loss of primary teeth as a result of accidents or decay can cause serious problems including poorly spaced and crooked adult teeth. As a result, it is just as important to care for a child's baby teeth as it is for the adult teeth that follow.

We believe that a child should have their first dental visit around the time of their first birthday. We provide a complimentary visit for children under a year old.  Recent studies show that by the age of three, a child is already at risk for having cavities which can be caused by something as innocent as putting a baby to sleep with a bottle of juice or milk. Along with taking our first look at your child's oral condition, this first appointment is largely focused on the parents and helps them to establish a good oral hygiene program and diet for the child.
